North Adams Public School's Volunteer Program

Volunteers make a world of difference!

The 2007-2008 school year starts the sixth year for the North Adams Public School's Volunteer Program.

The program has in place a recruitment process, intake procedures, training, one-on-support, and a growing team of dynamic volunteers. Each year the list of volunteers grow with last year’s list having over 200 volunteers!

Volunteers come from all walks of life. Schedules are flexible and assignments are meaningful.

We have tutors, homework helpers, classroom assisting, library assistants, general office assistance, after school helpers, special events, project assignments and school greeters. Should a volunteer have special skills or interests, every effort is made to be creative in the assignment placement.

Currently, volunteers are involved in our schools in many ways, including PTA’s, PTG’s, the Foster Grandparent Program, the Williams College Howard Hughes Medical Institute Program, MCLA STICS (Student Teachers In Classroom Support), the MCLA/Inkberry Write Stuff Program, the Drury Drama Team, Special Events Committees, and Sports Programs. There are also many dedicated parents and community members who volunteer their time chaperoning fieldtrips and dances.

Volunteers are always needed. To get more information on volunteering or to schedule an intake meeting, please contact Liz Urban, District Volunteer Coordinator at 413-664-7512 or eurban@napsk12.org All volunteers are required to have a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check. No volunteer placements will be given prior to the CORI check.

I look forward to hearing from you to see how we can match
your skills and personality in an effort to make a difference
in the lives of our children.
Volunteering is a fulfilling service
to the community, one which can put a smile on a child’s face

or make a profound difference academically
