• SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL WORK FROM DATE OF HIRE UNTIL TEACHER RETURNS (ANTICIPATED DATE OF RETURN IS APRIL 7, 2020, POSSIBLY LATER)
• WILL WORK 6.5 HOURS PER DAY FOR 5 DAYS PER WEEK

Supervision: Reports to the Building Principal. Supervises personnel as designated by the Principal or the Superintendent.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Establishes effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability.
2. Establishes good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
3. Teaches reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music to pupils in a classroom, using the course of study adopted by the School Committee and other appropriate learning activities.
4. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school.
5. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
6. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
8. Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
9. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s progress and interpret the school’s program.
10. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
11. Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
12. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and self-selected professional growth activities.
13. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
14. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
15. Administers group standardized tests in accordance with the school testing program.
16. Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
17. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
18. Any other duties as may be assigned by Administration.

Requirements
• BACHELOR’S DEGREE
• MASSACHUSETTS DESE LICENSURE PREFERRED

Physical Requirements: The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects. The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.

Environmental Conditions: The occupant is required to work indoors. The regular chemical solvents are toners and cleaning fluids. The occupant may also come into contact with ink, chalk, and other materials associated with the teaching process.
