The School Committee of the North Adams Public Schools and the North Adams City Council will meet in convention at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2020, to elect a new school committee member to fill a vacant seat on the School Committee. The School Committee and the City Council invite residents of the City of North Adams, Massachusetts, who are willing to be considered for election as a school committee member to declare their candidacy by submitting a statement of interest. Any resident of the City of North Adams who is eligible to vote is eligible to be elected to serve on the School Committee.
The School Committee is the governing board of the city’s public school system. The School Committee’s primary responsibility is to establish those purposes, programs, and procedures that will best produce the educational achievement needed by our students. The Committee is charged with accomplishing this while also being responsible for wise management of resources available to the school system. The Committee must fulfill these responsibilities by functioning primarily as a legislative body to formulate and adopt policy, by selecting an executive officer to implement policy, and by evaluating the results. It must carry out its functions openly, while seeking the comments of public, students, and staff in its decision-making processes.
Nominations will be accepted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org until 4 p.m. Monday, August 10, 2020.
