Child Find

It is the responsibility of North Adams Public Schools to identify any child who is a resident of North Adams who may have a disability, regardless of the level of severity. It is also the responsibility of North Adams Public Schools to evaluate those students to determine if they are eligible for special education or related services under IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) or 603 CMR 28 (Massachusetts Special Education Regulations) or accommodations under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. North Adams Public Schools is also committed to identifying children with disabilities before their third birthday in order to begin any necessary services or programming on the child’s third birthday. If you have questions or concerns regarding your child’s development and would like to have him/her screened, please contact Shelley Fachini, Special Education Coordinator for Early Childhood at 413-776-1668 or email sfachini@napsk12.org

If you suspect that your child, at any age, may need an evaluation to determine eligibility for special education services or Section 504 accommodations, you may request an evaluation, at no cost, at your child's school. Please contact the Principal or Special Education Coordinator at your child’s school for information about referring your child for an evaluation.
