Director of Curriculum and Instruction-School Based

Location: Brayton Elementary (1), Colegrove Park Elementary (1), and Drury High School (1)

This is an annual internal posting for current NAPS faculty members. The following position is stipended per the NATA contract and is for the school year only.

Job Goal:          To improve instructional quality and student outcomes in the school 

Supervision:     Reports to the building principal.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Acts for the Principal in his/her absence, when so directed.

  2. Supervises and provides substitute teacher coverage of classes on a daily basis.

  3. Collaborates with the Principal and the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment regarding curriculum development, resources, and program development.

  4. Actively supports the district and school improvement goals implementation and progress monitoring across all grades/content areas.

  5. Implements and monitors a logical sequential curriculum in grade level span of the school in coordination with the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.

  6. Coordinates and supports instructional practices across grades.

  7. Provides regular instructional coaching to classroom teachers.

  8. Serves as a consultant for, and coordinates the selection of, instructional supplies, equipment, textbooks, and other instructional materials through the adherence to text//program adoption processes and requirements.

  9. Establishes contact and/or meets with parents about curriculum and instructional issues.

  10. Collaborates with the building Principal to implement PowerSchool scheduling, grading, and reporting.

  11. Assists the Principal in supervising and evaluating the effectiveness of school-based personnel.

  12. Assists with the interviewing and hiring of new faculty and staff.

  13. Aides in implementation of testing (e.g. MCAS, Fastbridge, and other assessments as needed).

  14. Aides in creating and implementing Professional Development.

  15. Collaborates with other school and district leaders to discuss school policies and issues.

  16. Collaborates with the Literacy Coordinator to ensure the implementation of effective reading and writing strategies across the grade levels.

  17. Collaborates with Statewide System of Support representatives and other representatives of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as necessary to foster school improvement planning and implementation.

  18. Serves as member of the following teams and committees at the building level: School Council, Core/Student Support Team, Instructional Leadership Team, School Safety Management Team.

  19. Attends School Committee meetings as necessary.

  20. Attends major school events outside of the school day as directed by the Principal.

  21. Teaches classes as necessary, up to .25 FTE as a classroom teacher when needed

  22. Assists the Principal in the preparation of the annual operating budget in those areas pertaining to curriculum and instruction.

  23. Develops, supports, and implements state, federal, and private grant proposals and applications. Facilitates collaboration with grant partners.

  24. Provides oversight to tracking and reporting of grants specific to the school.

  25. Works such additional time, beyond the regular school day, as required and performs any duties related thereto.

  26. Works a minimum of five (5) additional days in the summer to assist with planning for the school year (summer responsibilities may include conducting interviews, developing instructional guidance, managing curriculum resources, assisting with assessment creation, and operational planning in collaboration with the principal).

  27. Performs other duties as directed by the Principal and/or the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.

Requirements
Required: Department of Education Certification as a Teacher. At least three years of prior work experience as a Teacher. Master’s Degree.       

Preferred:    Prior leadership experience at the school level. Prior experience with curriculum coordination and designing professional development for teachers.

Physical Requirements: The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary.  Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects.  The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally.  There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.

Environmental Conditions:       The occupant is required to work indoors.  The regular chemical solvents are toners, inks, and cleaning fluids.
