DRURY HIGH SCHOOL RECEIVES FIRST-EVER INNOVATION CAREER PATHWAY DESIGNATION IN HEALTHCARE AND SOCIAL ASSISTANCE
Drury High School has been named a first-time recipient of the Innovation Career Pathway (ICP) designation by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The designation, announced by the Healey-Driscoll Administration, recognizes Drury’s new pathway in Healthcare and Social Assistance and affirms the school’s commitment to preparing students for high-demand careers through hands-on learning and work-based experiences.
Drury joins a growing list of schools across the Commonwealth offering these transformative opportunities, with nearly 30 percent of eligible high schools in Massachusetts offering at least one Innovation Career Pathway beginning in the 2025–2026 school year. The program allows students to explore career options in sectors such as health care, clean energy, information technology, manufacturing, and life sciences — all at no cost to students.
"This is a major step forward for Drury High School and for our entire community," said Superintendent Dr. Tim Callahan. "We are proud to be recognized as a first-time Innovation Career Pathway designee and look forward to building strong partnerships in the healthcare sector, aligned to our Early College health sciences program, that will provide real-world learning experiences and career exploration for our students."
The Innovation Career Pathway designation reflects a rigorous application process, supported by planning and implementation grants, and includes a five-year performance contract with ongoing professional development and review. Students enrolled in the pathway will take advanced coursework, develop essential technical and employability skills, and participate in internships or other work-based learning experiences.
"This designation underscores our district’s dedication to preparing students not just for graduation, but for life after high school," said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Annie Pecor. "Our healthcare and social assistance pathway will offer students invaluable exposure to careers that are critical to the well-being of our region and state."
Principal Stephanie Kopala of Drury High School added, "We are excited to begin this new chapter and give our students opportunities to explore meaningful, rewarding careers in healthcare. This pathway will connect our students with local partners, ignite their interest in serving others, and give them a head start on their future."
The Massachusetts Innovation Career Pathways initiative is part of the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s broader effort to reimagine high school, increase student engagement, and align education with workforce needs. The announcement was made alongside the news of the 2025 Massachusetts STEM Summit, highlighting successful career pathway models across the state.
